She now lives with her husband and young daughter in Christmas Valley, where she paints in her riverside studio. For the past four years, Shelley has been working on two major commissions: The Art of Ashtanga (illustrations for a Yoga teacher training manual) and a 12 foot mural entitled ‘The Metastasis’. In addition to her art career, Shelley teaches oil painting, drawing and art history at Lake Tahoe Community College. Shelley’s paintings have been exhibited internationally since 1996 at venues that include The Museum of Modern Art, Wales, The Bristol Guild of Art, and The Royal Cambrian Academy. During 2000-2005 Shelley established her own successful art gallery and open studio in Betws y Coed, North Wales – supported and sponsored by the Prince’s Trust, The Arts Council of Wales, DMM International, The Royal Oak Hotel, and Arts & Business. Shelley had the honor of meeting art enthusiast Prince Charles in 2002. She has been a featured artist at several international Mountain Film Festivals in the UK, and her work toured with the prestigious Wales Drawing Bienalle. She held solo exhibitions of her work at Penrhyn Castle, The Albany Gallery, Ogilvy & Estill Contemporary Art Gallery in the UK. Shelley is a founding member of the local activist group Tahoe Activist Artists, whose mission is to promote compassion, conversation and connection in our local community through art. Tahoe Activist Artists hosted the fundraising art event We the People at Tahoe Mountain Lab, which was sponsored by Tahoe Arts Alliance, benefitting Live Violence Free, International Rescue Committee and the Malala Fund. Tahoe Arts Alliance awarded Shelley the Arts Innovator Award in 2019 for a Human Trafficking Campaign with the Activist Artists. A collection of large scale oil portraits by Shelley entitled Fundamental Freedoms was featured at the Foyer Gallery at Lake Tahoe Community College. 5th Grade children from all the local schools in our district were brought by bus to the college for guided talks and discussion groups led by the artist.

From New York City to Southern California, to the expansive vistas of Nevada, her work is in permanent collections and publications, including the Churchill Arts Council's "Sierra Great Basin Collection," and Truckee Meadows Community College's "The Meadow". Asa Kennedy - Muralist & Fine Art Painter
Asa Kennedy is a self trained mural artist and fine arts painter. A student of his craft, Asa is proud to paint freehand, never taping off lines or using projection or gridding systems to paint his work. His dedication to mural painting drives Asa to follow a tradition of community involvement. He has led youth based teaching projects, worked closely with community volunteers, and mentored other artists, all on various large-scale mural projects. For Asa, this direct involvement is the most immediate way for art to have a personal and social impact. Asa's studio work is rooted in the abstract surreal, and also in geometric impossibilities. All handcrafted, and custom-built canvases by the artist create an outside of the box boundary for Asa to speak his own language. It is a dialect that communicates human conditions of tension, anticipation, decay, growth, and a sense of wonder that is derived from illusion. Asa's never-ending study of color and its emotional and psychological impact help inform his language. Through his artistic practice, Asa hopes to peel back the veil a little bit, and contribute to an existence of harmony and balance amid a topsy-turvy world.

She left Puerto Rico to attend Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence Rhode Island. She graduated with a BFA and a BIA later she attended Rhode Island College and completed her MAT in teaching visual art. Maria has taught studio art at many levels.
